Indian Head Massage (Champissage) has been traditionally used in India for thousands of years. Introduced to the West in the 1970’s Indian Head Massage works on both physical and mental states. A variety of massage techniques are used to release tension, stimulate circulation and rebalance energy flow to aid relaxation. Treatment involves not only massage to the head, but to the upper back, shoulders, neck and face. Benefits include relief of muscle tension, increased blood flow which in return can promote hair growth, encourages sinus decongestion, reduces stress and anxiety and is deeply relaxing.
Typically this form of massage is performed whilst you are sat in a chair, however treatment can be adapted if you should wish to lie on the treatment couch. For best effects oils are used, but again should you wish to have the massage without then this is also possible.
What to expect; Your therapist will carry out a consultation and explain what is going to happen and choose the oils to use. We will ask you to remove your top and place a sarong under your arms so we have good access to your back and shoulders. For long hair it is best to arrive with this loosely tied up and then we will remove your hairband to carry out the scalp massage. You can choose to have music and for best results your therapist will remain quiet throughout your treatment. The aim is to reach a deep state of relaxation and afterwards it is important to rest, drink lots of water and avoid any strenuous activity and stimulants such as caffeine or alcohol. Please leave the oil in your hair overnight where possible and when washing your hair in the morning apply shampoo directly on to the hair and then wash to avoid the hair going lank and greasy.
